Midland Railway Drawing Room Car. This carriage was built in 1876 at the Midland Derby Works to a Pullman design. To all intents and purposes it was an American design coach. The interior was sumptuous to say the least with individual deep upholstered swivel chair, hand worked antimacassers and all metalwork in the carriage was silver plated.  For some reason this arrangement was not popular with the travelling public and many such vehicles were converted to day cars.

Pullman type coaches were used on many of the fast expresses of the Midland Railway.
