Class W1 No 10000. This locomotive started life in 1929 as an experimental venture utilising high pressure steam. It didn't look anything like this being more akin to the later P2 Class of 2-8-2 tender locomotives. The high pressure technology didn't really work out and the locomotive was completely rebuilt in 1937 to a style resembling the highly successful A4 Class but retaining the 4-6-4 wheel arrangement. In the latter form it was a very efficient machine. I always thought, upon seeing it, that it looked more massive than the A4's, notwithstanding the extra length.
