British Railways Class 9F. Designed by Robert Riddles for BR and introduced in 1951. They were the most powerful locomotive to work on British Railways and one of the Class started a train of 2100 tons. Some were allocated to the Somerset & Dorset line where they worked the Pines Express and timed at over 90 mph. They were the last steam locomotives to be built for British Railways.

The livery was all black apart from the last of the Class which was liveried in BR green (GWR livery) and called "Evening Star" and has been preserved. Nine others of the Class have also been preserved.
